Excursion to the water reservoir “Luetsche”
    By the project team

Participants:  6 pupils, 2 teachers

Our project group used the time there to work on its environmental topics.

The water reservoir “Luetsche” is a perfect example of balanced relationship between human use and the protection of landscape and nature.

The dam and the associated reservoir is 1 km long, about 200 m wide and covers an area of about 14 hectare (ha). Two streams (“Loeffelbuehlgraben” and “Langer Grund Bach” flow through two adjoining valleys and supply the reservoir.

First it is a favourite excursion destination that is quite easily reached by bicycle, motorbike, car or by foot. The nice composite next to the lake shore is a great place to relax and to enjoy nature beauties around.

Going by boat, going fishing, swimming, diving and sailing are possible there.

Second it is an area where various animal species live, for example the fire salamander, the trout and rare plant can be found.

The lake is surrounded by coniferous trees (96% are spruce trees). So nature conservation plays an important role like everywhere in Thuringia.
