The first
Olympic Games were described in 776 B.C. Every four years, the
ancient Greeks brought their best male athletes together for
sporting event. During the Olympics, the Greeks stopped all their
wars and fighting. The ancient Olympics had sports related to war
like javelin throwing, chariot racing, and running, boxing, and
wrestling. The Olympics ended in 389 BC. The modern Olympics were
started in 1896 in Athens, Greece. Except during wars, the Olympics
occur every four years. There are two series of Olympic games: the
summer and winter Olympics.

The best
athletes at the Olympics win medals. Their colors are gold for first
place, silver for second, and bronze for third.

The five
rings (blue, green, red, yellow, and black) of the Olympic flag
represent the five major continents of the world.

the summer Olympics include athletics (track and field events such
as sprint, marathon, and discus), swimming, gymnastics, cycling,
boxing, soccer, weightlifting, wrestling, basketball, and many other
sports. The summer Olympics are more famous than the winter
Olympics.
